The Fulani people
FULANI comprise of many different groups:
1. Fulanawa ( from Muhammad Fulani )
2. Falatawa ( from Abubakar Falata )
3. Durdawa ( from Umaru Durdo )
4. Torankawa ( from Usmanu Toro )
5. Gurdawa ( from Aliyu Gurdo )
6. Sullubawa or Shafilawa ( from Fatima Sippowo, married to a Roman by the name of SILSULU).
Though Roman, but Sheik Uthman bn Fodio directed that they be counted as Fulani.
They were all descendents of Uqba bn Aamir Abu Ubaidah bn Aljarrah, who married Maryam nicknamed Bajjo Mango (meaning the only child of her parents), daughter of the King of Spain Mazfel bn Merseils; a Roman by tribe but a Jew by religion. He converted to Islam without a fight when Uqbah received Flag from Amri bn Asi, the Governor of Egypt during the Reign of Caliph Umar bn Kattab, to wage Jihad on Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco & the other lands nearby.
They are called Fulani after the first son of Uqbah, Muhammad Fulani, otherwise they all had different identities.
Furthermore, they were the first to speak the language here on Earth. Of course Prophet Adam AS spoke every earthly language while in the Paradise.
The are the largest tribe in Afrika & they spread all along West Africa from Senegal to the Cameroons..
They are well educated, except for a few; wealthy, goodlooking, friendly, nomadic, etc.
However, they are envied by so many tribes which leads to hostility towards them. Naturally, with time they lost alot & became not religious but hostile, to the extent of now being armed robbers, kidnappers and so on.
However, the root cause of these were their being denied their grazing land, "Burtali & Mashekari" taken away by politicians, traditional rulers etc in many states of Notthern Nigeria.
They are also denied grazing land, lakes & rivers, because of dry season farming, thereby forcing them to move South in search of pastoral land for their animals, thus creating conflicts with host communities.
We must rise above ethnicities & religious bigotry for us to know that God created us different so that we may know & understand one another.
Killing, maiming & destroying each other or our property does not make us better than one another. We all are guilty & must repent & learn to live with one another as provided by our Constitution.
We, as Muslims & Christians, are a prayerful people. Please we should continue praying & resolving our differences in civilised ways.
May Almighty God help us in this direction, amen.
From Alhaji Almustapha H. Jokolo, the Emir of Gwandu.
God knows best. Peace.
